A Room with a Medallion stems from a childhood memory, a memory of a chandelier and a medallion surrounding it in the main living room in my grandmother house back in Aleppo. Hanging from the ceiling, emitting a beautiful soft light, casting magnificent soft shadows with its shimmering crystals, and surrounded by a beautiful plaster work base

Medallions are generally considered purely ornamental devices. However the project aims to analyse the medallions’ designs, functions and aesthetics then understand their formal expression.

The investigation aims to design, yet keep the original and authentic making process of medallions. Highlighting their functionality rather than just their decorative purpose.

The project brings the craft and the process of making plaster work medallions to light and question the materials and aesthetics through rethinking, redesigning and reconstructing their structure while keeping their identity and preserve their norms.
